Art is Existence

The separation between creating art as a passion and to fulfill a need to create, and making art to just make money and sell was the main topic I took from our discussion today. There is a correlation between the reasons people create art and the meanings behind abstract art. Is abstract art good simply because there is a deep meaning behind it, or is it good because one or two people say it is? Is abstract art good because a very famous, millionaire-artist created it, or because it was simply a form of creative expression from a lesser known artist? The art world is this weird place where money runs the business, but so do feelings and creative expression. Do competitions like the Turner Prize in London define who good artists, and what good art is? All of these topics and questions just brings my mind back to: What is art? The answer to that question in my mind is, it is everything. Beautiful things are art, nature is art, sculptures are art, dance is art. Art is anything that can cause people to feel certain feelings and to think certain things. Art is what our minds consume as these expressions of feelings and thoughts. In this world, in existence, I think art is important, whether people understand it or not. Some people may not like dance or performance art, and that is totally fine. But, there are always humans out there who do and that is what truly matters. Art is about feeling, thoughts, existence, sharing, moods, colors, senses, and psychology. Art is literally everything to me, and whether I think about the business behind the art world or the meaning behind why a piece of art was created, at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. What matters is that art is out there, artists are out there, and we can all share in the beauty of it forever.
